One Project (Adventist) COMES OUT

"I’d often drive up here into Seattle, park the car, walk around, look at all the people, and say, “Man, I wonder how in the world you could reach people like this!”" (Greg Nelson, The Light is On in Seattle, Adventist Review, 26 Jul 2001)

The One Project found the answer, attracting huge crowds to their Seattle Gatherings.  (see at right)

And now,  "We are often asked to explain the secret of the One project’s success." https://boulder.church/the1project

"Simply put, sex in advertising is the use of sexually provocative or erotic imagery (or sounds, suggestions, and subliminal messages) that are specifically designed to arouse interest in a particular product, service or brand.  Typically, sex refers to beautiful women (and increasingly, handsome men) that are used to lure in a viewer, reader or listener" (Paul Suggett, Does Sex Really Sell in Advertising?, The Balance Careers, 3 Jan 2018)(as shown at left):  Bodybuilder "Bryan, the son of a pediatrician and a nurse, has served as senior pastor of the University Church since 2009, where he expanded ministry programs" (One Project  founder Alex Bryan in Alex Bryan, Walla Walla Church Pastor, to Lead Kettering College of Medical Arts, Adventist Review, 19 Apr 2013) to the gym, where "I was standing there admiring myself."

OUTREACH MINISTRY

"In the reflection of the mirror, there he was -- a man!!"

THE BAPTISMAL CANDIDATE WAS "READY TO GO"

"He was cut, ripped, buff, ready to go."

TURNING UP THE TEMPERATURE

"Our eyes locked, and neither one of us could look away.  We just stood there, staring at one another."  (One Project Founder Alex Bryan, ...to Be Continued: Acts 8:9-25 Sermon, Walla Walla University Church, 24 Feb 2018, Minute 55)

BUT THEN NATURE TOOK IT'S COURSE

"My brother, I've been to your house. I've had the dirty bird". (One Project Co-founder Tim Gillespie, The Heresy Response Sermon, One Project 6 Gathering, http://vimeo.com/71480214 minute 14)

"When ads are more sexually provocative, men in particular are irresistibly drawn to them. It's simple genetics. Men respond to sexual images. And if your ad creates a sexual situation, it will get the desired response." (Paul Suggett, Does Sex Really Sell in Advertising?, The Balance Careers, 3 Jan 2018)

SLICK, AVANT GARDE ADVERTISING

"Step into the lobby of Grace Place, the weekend ministry of the year-old Christ Advent Fellowship (CAF), and you might wonder whether you're really in a fellowship of Adventists" (Andy Nash, Riding the Grace Wave, Adventist Review, 30 Oct 1997, p 8):  "One way in which males display dominance is by displaying their crotch." (Body language: The crotch displays of men, https://www.psychmechanics.com/2015/05/body-language-crotch-displays-of-men.html)  (see at left)

BUT THIS IS JUST CONTEMPORARY WORSHIP

"The fact is, for many Fort Collins-area Adventists who prefer contemporary worship, Grace Place is the place to be" (Andy Nash, Riding the Grace Wave, Adventist Review, 30 Oct 1997, p 8):    "The most common way in which men display their crotch is by taking up the thumbs-in-belt gesture.  The thumbs are hooked to the belt or the pockets while the fingers spread out and highlight the crotch. This gesture is used by men to display a dominant, sexually aggressive attitude."  (Body language: The crotch displays of men, https://www.psychmechanics.com/2015/05/body-language-crotch-displays-of-men.html)  That's Grace Place pastor Clayton Peck, "highlighting" at left.

His worship leader loved to "highlight" in the biggest way possible.  (as illustrated at right)

THE GRACE PLACE ADVERTISING WAS JUST WAY TOO EFFECTIVE

"There's a fine line, and all too often these days brands are stepping way over it" (Paul Suggett, Does Sex Really Sell in Advertising?, The Balance Careers, 3 Jan 2018):  "On Dec. 8, Loveland Police arrested Michael "Brett" Wilson, 49, on suspicion of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl in February 2002 when he was performing councilor duties at the church.  Wilson once served as a worship leader at Grace Place Church.  He also was involved with the church's music program, said Kevin Maul, an investigator with the Larimer County Sherriff's Department." (Church denies covering up alleged sex assault, 9News, 13 Jan 2010, http://www.9news.com/news/local/story.aspx?storyid=130685)

GRACE PLACE MINISTER'S TESTIMONY

""The whole purpose of using contemporary praise music," says Brett Wilson, worship leader, "is to connect with the seeking heart. A lot of people have told me that they came to Grace Place because of the music, but kept coming back because the gospel is central and they love the message."" (Andy Nash, Riding the Grace Wave, Adventist Review, 30 Oct 1997, p 9)(see at right)
